Abstract: The current hostile media and political landscapes make communicating geoscience to politicians more challenging than ever. Often, the topic is contrary to politicians' social, ideological, and religious views. Worse, scientists are usually unprepared to communicate science to non-scientists, and end up not being heard. The key is to meet the politicians where they are, frame the information in a way that resonates with them, make sure to develop enduring relationships, and then leave.
